JDG: Goliath finds his heart again at Longchamp
Goliath is still a giant
While those close to Goliath (Adlerflug) feared they had ‘lost’ their champion in Asia, he rose from the ashes to win La Coupe (Gr3). It was certainly not a Gr1 – unlike the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes, which he already has under his belt – but this success represents a decisive victory for the entire team, who are relieved to have the real Goliath back. John Stewart, Philip von Ullmann and Francis-Henri Graffard can now look forward to the rest of the season with peace of mind. The pressure before the race was so intense that nerves got the better of everyone when the horse returned to the scales: his training jockey, Dylan, and Anthony, the travelling groom, were in tears. Francis-Henri Graffard, meanwhile, could breathe a sigh of relief.
