Saturday, 19 July Bad Harzburg | Start of 1st race: 2 p.m.

Start of the 145th Bad Harzburg Horse Racing Week

With a full programme and a total of 16 races, the 145th Bad Harzburg Horse Racing Week kicks off this weekend at the ‘Weißen Stein’ racecourse in the district of Bündheim. On Saturday, 19 July, the racing week will be officially opened at 11 a.m. in the presence of numerous guests of honour from politics and business. The sporting programme begins at 2 p.m. with eight races, the highlight being a super handicap. This race is a special feature in Bad Harzburg, as it is a basic race with a particularly high prize money of 20,000 euros. Twelve horses will compete in this race sponsored by Öffentliche Versicherung Braunschweig.

The only hurdle race of the day will feature the eight-year-old Cabot Cliffs, currently the best horse in this division. The gelding, owned by racing club president Stephan Ahrens and his partners, won one of the biggest hurdle races in Italy a few weeks ago in Merano. The race in Bad Harzburg will be the final race on Saturday at around 6 p.m.

Germany's entire jockey elite will be in the saddle on Saturday, led by reigning champion Thore Hammer-Hansen, who currently tops the list again. Leon Wolff, Lilli-Marie Engels and Wladimir Panov, who are also among the top five in the statistics, will also be competing in the Harz Mountains.
